أَما تَرى الزُهرَةَ وَال

هِلالَ جاءا بِالعَجَب

Do you not see the moon and Venus

Come with wonder

تُضيءُ هاتيكَ وَذا

بَينَ النُجومِ يَلتَهِب

Those two shine

Among the stars burning

كَأُكرَةٍ مِن فَضَّةٍ

وَصَولَجانٍ مِن ذَهَبِ

Like cups of silver

And icicles of gold

فَاِشرَب عَلى نورَيهِما

وَسَقِّنيها وَاِنتَخِب

Drink in their light

Serve me them and choose

قَد هَجَونا وَكانَ غَيرَ صَوابِ

وَرَمَينا لِعَنبَرٍ في تُرابِ

They blamed us and it was not right

And we threw amber in the dust

وَظَلَمنا الحُسامَ وَهوَ صَقيلٌ

إِذا جَعَلناهُ في اَخَسِّ قِرابِ

And we wronged the sword while it was sharp

When we put it in the lowest sheath

لَو عَرَفنا لِما نَسَجناهُ قَدراً

ما فَرَشناهُ في خَرابٍ يَبابِ

If we had known the destiny we wove for it

We would not have laid it in the ruins to waste away

عَجَبي فِيَّ إِذ اَتَيتُ بِشَمسٍ

كَيفَ حَتّى أَطلَعتُها في ضَبابِ

My wonder in myself when I came with a sun

How could I possibly have brought it out in the fog

يا لَها غَلطَةً وَإِلّا فَما ذا

يَنفَعُ البازَ صَيدُهُ لِلغُرابِ

Oh what a mistake that was, else what

Would a falcon's catch benefit the crow
