عَروسُ مُدامَةٍ زُفَّت إِلَينا
عَلى نَغَمَ الَثالِثِ وَالمَثاني
A bride of wine was brought in procession to us,
to the strains of the third and second strings.
كَساها الدَلُّ حُلَّةَ جُلَّنارٍ
فَطَرَّزَها المِزاجُ بِأُقحُوانِ
Coy grace clothed her in a robe of pomegranate blossom,
and the mingling-water embroidered her with daisies.
فَلَمّا أَن جَلَوناها تَناءى
مِنَ الأَحزانِ عَنّا كُلُّ دانِ
When at last we unveiled her, far away withdrew
from us every sorrow that had drawn near.
