حَقّاً لَقَد تَرَكَ الفُؤادَ مُعَذَّباً
خَدٌّ غلالَتهُ أَرَقُّ مِنَ الصَبا
Truly, they have left the heart tormented—
a cheek whose veil is finer than the zephyr.
لَم يَبدُ قَطُّ العُيونِ مُفَضَّضاً
إِلّا وَعادَ مِنَ اللِحاظِ مُذَهَّبا
Never did it appear to the eyes silvered
but return from their glances gilded.
وَإِذا تَلَوَّت حَيَّةٌ مِن شَعرِهِ
يَوماً أَعادَتها المَواشِطُ عَقرَبا
And when a serpent from his hair coils,
one day, the women who comb it turn it back into a scorpion.
