ذَكَرت الفِراقَ فَأَقلَقتَني
فَكَيفَ أَكونُ غَداةَ الفِراقِ
You spoke of parting and filled me with unrest;
how, then, shall I be on the morning of farewell?
إِذاً كُنتُ آتي وَلي أَدمُعٌ
تُعانِقُ خَدَّيَّ قَبلَ العِناقِ
If even when I come, I have tears
that embrace my cheeks before our embrace,
فَإِن أَبقَ بَعدَكَ حَيّاً فَما
بَقائي سِوى طَمَعٍ في التَلاقي
then if I remain alive after you are gone,
my life will be nothing but the hope of reunion.
