قَد ضاقَتِ الحيلَةُ بي في رَشاً

لا يَقبَلُ الرِشوَةَ مِن ذُلّي

My stratagems have turned against me in Rasha

He who is so humble does not accept the bribe

لَم أَرقَ مِن وَعدٍ لَهُ ذِروَةً

إِلّا وَأَشرَفتُ عَلى المَطلِ

I have not aspired from a promise that has a summit

Except that I looked over the expectation

آفَتُهُ غِرَّتُهُ بِالَّذي

مِن مِثلِهِ يَجري عَلى مِثلي

His flaw is his pride in what

happens to the likes of me from the likes of him

لَو لَم يَكُن غِرّاً بِأَمرِ الهَوى

أَوصَلَني مِنهُ إِلى الوَصلِ

If he were not deluded by love's affair

He would have connected me to the connection
