دَع مَن يَنقِّي الشيبَ مِن وَجهِهِ
إِن شاءَ في الجُمعَةِ أَو في الخَميسْ
Leave be the one who clears the gray from his face,
if he wishes, on Friday or on Thursday.
فَلَيسَ مِن ذَلِكَ عَتبٌ وَلا
ما يَتَعافاهُ ظِرافُ النُفوس
For there is no blame in that, nor
anything refined souls would shrink from.
لا بَأسَ إِن عاجَ بِمُقراضِهِ
يُقَلِّعُ العاجَ مِنَ الآبَنوس
No harm if he plies his shears,
uprooting ivory from ebony.
