1. يا مَن يَحِنُّ عَلَيَّ فيما يَدَّعي

    وَيَلومُني فيمَن أَحِنُّ عَلَيهِ

    O you who rebuke me for the one I yearn for,

    And blame me for the one I yearn over,

  2. حَتّامَ تَرمي النَصحَ بَينَ يَدي فَتىً

    هُوَ لِلهَوى كَالعَبدِ بَينَ يَدَيهِ

    You cast advice before a youth,

    Who is to passion as a slave before his master.

  3. أَقسَمتُ لَوجاءَ السُلُوُّ بِنَفسِهِ

    يَسعى إِلَيَّ لَما نَظَرتُ إِلَيهِ

    I swear, if distraction itself sought me,

    I would not look upon it.
