عارِضُهُ مِثلَ البَرَد
وَصُدغُهُ مِثلَ الزَرَد
His cheek is like hail,
and his two temple-locks like chain mail.
يَحُلُّ بِالهِجرانِ ما
كانَ مِنَ الوَصلِ عَقَد
With estrangement he unties what
union had once bound.
فَكُلُّ مَن يَعشَقُهُ
وَقفٌ عَلى طولِ الكَمَد
Thus everyone who loves him
comes to know prolonged heartache.
