وَهَيفاءَ لَولا ما تَمَلَّكَ وَجهُها
مِنَ الحُسنِ ما كانَت لِتَطمَعَ في مِلكي
And a slender-waisted beauty—were it not for what her face possesses
of loveliness, she would never have aspired to possess me.
تَحُلُّ عَنِ الكافورِ جَيبَ قَميصِها
وَتَعقِدُ أَطرافَ الرِداءَ عَلى المِسكِ
She draws her chemise’s neckline away from camphor-white skin,
and fastens the edges of her mantle over musk-black hair.
إِذا سَفَرَت أَبصَرتَ خَدّاً وَسالِفاً
كَصُبحِ يَقينٍ تَحتَ لَيلٍ مِنَ الشَكِّ
When she unveils, you behold a cheek and the side of a neck,
like the dawn of certainty beneath a night of doubt.
