يا مَن نَداهُ سَلِسُ القِيادِ
وَما لُهُ لِرائِحٍ وَغادِ
O you whose bounty readily answers the rein,
And whose wealth is for the evening traveler and the morning traveler—
أَجلُ الَّتي تَجلو صَدا الفُؤادِ
فَالرَعدُ لِلأَنداءِ مِثلُ الحادي
Noblest is that which slakes the heart’s thirst.
For thunder is to the showers like a camel-driver,
وَالبَرقُ مِن بَينِ الهُمومِ بادِ
كَأَنَّما يَقدَحُ مِن زِنادِ
And lightning appears from amid the cares,
As though it strikes a spark from a firesteel.
