1. أَرى اِبنَ فَطوسَةٍ يَغتابُ شِعري

    وَشِعري لِلظِماءِ إِلَيهِ صافِ

    I see the son of Fatousah backbiting my poetry,

    Yet my poetry to the thirsty leads to water clear.

  2. فَإِن لَم يَقِف آثاري بِخَيرٍ

    أَمَرتُ بِأَن تُزَبطِرهُ القَوافي

    If he cannot follow in my virtuous footsteps,

    I command the rhymes to make him disappear.
