المَرءُ يَرفَعُ نَفسُهُ وَيُهينُها
وَيَزينُها بِفَعالِهِ وَيَشينُها
A man may raise his soul or bring it low,
Adorn it with his deeds, or shame it so.
فَإِذا أَهانَ المَرءُ عِندَكَ نَفسَهُ
فَاِرغَب بِنَفسِكَ أَن يُهانَ مَصونُها
When one belittles himself before your eyes,
Seek then to spare his soul that low demise.
