يا طَلعَةَ القَمَرِ المُنيرِ
يا قامَةَ الغُصنِ النَضيرِ
O rising moon so bright
O slender branch upright
جارَ الخِمارُ فَقُم بِنا
نَعدِل إِلى عَدلِ الخُمورِ
The tavern keeper calls, arise
Let's go where wineAuthorized
لا تَغفَلَن عَن لَذَةٍ
في مِثلِ ذا اليَومَ المَطيرِ
Forget not pleasures sweet
On such a rainy day
فَالقاشُ في ديباجَةٍ
أَعلامُها آسٌ وَخيري
The meadow clothed in brocade
With lances, tents, and cavalry
أَشجارُهُ وَنَسيمُهُ
مِثلُ المَشاجِبِ وَالبُخورِ
Its trees and gentle breeze
Like censers full of myrrh
وَبَهارُهُ مِثلَ الشُمو
سِ وَغُدرُهُ مِثلَ البُدورِ
Its blossoms like the stars
Its buds like pearly drops
وَالطَيرُ في أَرجائِهِ
مُتَجاوِباتٌ بِالصَفيرِ
The birds in every corner
With melodies confer
فَعَلَيكَ بِالذَهَبِ الَّذي
أَجراهُ روباسُ العَصيرِ
Make haste then to the gold
Refined by press of youth
حَتّى صَفا فَكَأَنَّهُ
دَمعُ الطَليقِ عَلى الأَسيرِ
Till like a prisoner's tear
It shines on him held captive
يُبدي حَباباً كَالعَقو
دِ عَلى كُؤوسٍ كَالبَخورِ
Bubbles like legs of deer
On goblets like a vapor
فَدَعِ الصَغيرَ مَكانَهُ
وَاِعدِل إِلى جِهَةِ الكَبيرِ
Leave little things their place
And rather seek the great
ما بَينَ وَردٍ كَالخُدو
دِ وَأُقحُوانٍ كَالثُغورِ
Where roses bloom like cheeks
And fruits like rubies gleam
إِن كُنتَ تَعلَمُ أَنَّ لي
عِلماً في مُلازَمَةِ البُكورِ
If you know I keep night's hours
Experience betimes
فَإِن اِستَفَدتَ مَسَرَّةً
فَبِحُسنِ مَشوَرَةِ المُشيرِ
You may gain happiness
By heeding wisdom's rhymes
