الدَهرُ ما بَينَ مَطوِيٍّ وَمَبسوطِ
وَالماءُ ما بَينَ مَجرودٍ وَمَخروطِ
Time is between folded and unfolded,
And water between drawn and overflowed.
في مَجلِسٍ عَمَرَتهُ الغادِياتُ لَنا
فَظَلَّ يُحلى بِتَزويقٍ وَتَسليطِ
In a gathering made pleasant by ladies of the past,
It remains, adorned with arrangement and pouring.
فَاِشرَب عَلى حُسنِهِ إِن كُنتَ مُعتَقِداً
أَلّا يُرى مِنهُ فيهِ وَجهُ تَفريطِ
So drink to its beauty, if you believe
No face of excess will be seen in it.
