إِذا تَثاقَلَ عَتبٌ
خَفَّفتُ روحَ اِعتِذاري
When blame weighs heavy,
I lighten my spirit with apology.
وَلَم يَمِل بي جُحودٌ
عَن واجِبِ الإِقرارِ
No ingratitude can tire me
From the duty of admission.
وَلَو تَحَمَّلَ سَمعي
مَشَقَّةَ الإِنتِهارِ
And if my hearing could endure
The hardship of reproach,
خَلائِقٌ أَنا مِنها
بَينَ العُلى وَالفَخارِ
I'm made of the stuff
Between the sublime and the humble.
إِذا كُنتُ أَولى وَأَحرى
بِالعَفوِ وَالإِغتِفارِ
When I’m most deserving and worthy
Of pardon and forgiveness,
وَلَو أَشاءُ لَطالَت
يَدي إِلى الإِنتِصارِ
And if I wished, my hand could reach
To vengeance,
لَكَنَّني أَتَوَخّى
رِضا صَديقي وَجاري
But I aim to please
My friend and neighbor.
