وَشاعِرٍ مِن بَني النجارِ
لا يَتَهَدّى إِلى الوَقارِ
A poet from the lineage of woodworkers
Does not aspire to dignity,
إِن عُرِّيَت فَيشَةٌ كَساها
ما لَيسَ يَكسوهُ غَيرَ عارِ
If a rag covers him, he is clothed,
Nothing but shame can clothe him,
وَجَنَّهُ اللَيلُ قَطُّ إِلّا
وَأَولَجَ اللَيلَ في النارِ
The night shelters him from all
But his own dark soul.
