1. مَرَّ بِنا يَبسِمُ عَن جَوهَرِ

    مُفَصَّلُ الأَبيَضِ بِالأَحمَرِ

    He passed by, smiling with the essence of beauty,

    White intricately mixed with red.

  2. أَهيَفُ لَولا خَطُّ حورِيَّةَ

    تَحَيَّرَت مِن طَرفِهِ الأَحوَرِ

    How graceful - were it not for the moles of the houri -

    Her glances would be confused.

  3. فَقُلتُ إِذا قابَلَني صُدغُهُ

    مِن نَثرِ الجِزعَ عَلى المَرمَرِ

    So I said, whenever her cheek meets me

    Like prose of sadness on marble,

  4. فَقالَ لي عَطّارُ خَدّي اِشتَهى

    أَن يُخلَطَ الكافورُ بِالعَنبَرِ

    The perfumer of my cheek desired

    To mix camphor with ambergris.
