أَخٌ لِيَ أَمسى في عَطاياهُ أَخطرُ

وَيُصبِحُ في شُكري لَهُ يَتَبَختَرُ

A brother of mine has become most generous with his gifts

And yet with my gratitude to him, he only grows more arrogant

فَوَشيُ الغِنى مِنهُ عَلَيَّ مُفَوَّفٌ

وَعَصبٌ الثَنا مِنّي عَلَيهِ مُحَبَّرُ

The riches he bestows on me come in overabundance

While my expressions of thanks to him are half-hearted

فَإِن أَثمَرَت آلاؤُهُ في مَغارِسي

فَفي رَوضِهِ مِنّي اِعتِرافٌ مُنوِّرُ

If his kind favors yield fruit in my character

My garden will shine with grateful blossoms for him
