1. ما أحرجَ البابَ بل ما أرحب الوادي

    ما أسهلَ السير بل ما أرشدَ الهادي

    What a narrow passage is not the door, but how spacious is the valley

    How easy is the journey, but how guiding is the guide

  2. قوموا بنا نحو رهبانية شرعت

    تقودنا نحو عرش الخالق الفادي

    Rise with us towards a monasticism that leads

    Us towards the throne of the redeeming Creator

  3. يا سائرين بها شدوا عزائمَكم

    لا يصلح السعي ذو ضجرٍ وإبعاد

    O you who travel it, strengthen your resolves

    Vain is the effort of one frustrated and distracted

  4. من يلتفت خلفه ضلت محجّتُه

    عن مُلك ربٍّ وعن فردوسه البادي

    Whoever looks behind has misguided his proof

    From the kingdom of the Lord and His manifest paradise

  5. يا نعمةً لم يفز إلّا القليلُ بها

    من يعتمدْ غيرَها يُضرَبْ بأعواد

    O a grace none has succeeded in except a few

    Whoever depends on other than it is struck with rods

  6. قد قال واضعها قولاً يحق له ال

    تصديق مفهمومُه معقولُ قُصّاد

    Its founder has spoken truly, his understanding is sound

    His concept intelligible, his words precise

  7. بع مقتناك وعد نحوي تجد بدلاً

    عما تغادر من مالٍ وأولاد

    Sell your belongings and come to Me, you'll find in place

    Of what you leave behind of wealth and children

  8. هذا الكمال الذي تجري له أبداً

    أبرار بري بلا ثوبٍ ولا زاد

    This perfection which the righteous always seek

    Without clothes or provisions they journey

  9. نحو الحياة التي لن تنتهي أبداً

    من رامها يستقم في نهج إرشادي

    Towards the eternal life that will never end

    Whoever desires it walks the guided path

  10. كنزاً عظيماً يرى في عرش مملكتي

    من باع شهواته واختار عُبّادي

    A great treasure he sees on the throne of My kingdom

    Who sold his desires and chose My worshippers

  11. يا حُسنَ رَهبنةٍ راعت طلائعُها

    لذائذَ الجسم إذا شيبت بأضداد

    O beauty of monasticism whose vanguards

    Renounced bodily pleasures when they grew old and frail

  12. فهي اعتمادٌ فمن يُصبَغْ بصبغتها

    يُبصرْ حياةً أتت من بعد ميلاد

    It is reliance, so whoever is dyed in its hue

    Sees a life that came after birth

  13. وهي الذبيحة من يذبحْ مَشيَّتَهُ

    للرب طوعاً يُصِبْ إحسانَ إسعاد

    It is the sacrifice, whoever sacrifices their will

    Willingly for God succeeds in benefaction

  14. وهي الشهادة فاخلع ما عليك بها

    أكرم بسفك الدما من نفس زُهّاد

    It is martyrdom, so take it off, with it

    You are honored by shedding blood more than ascetics

  15. وهي الضمين فثق يا من كفلتَ بها

    قد صرتَ من نخبة الأحيا لآباد

    It is the guarantor, so trust O you charged with it

    You have become of the chosen, ever-living

  16. وهي الطريق فلا تترك محجَّتها

    موليّاً يلوِ عنك الحفاظُ الهادي

    It is the path, so do not abandon its proof

    Turning away while the Guardian protects you

  17. وهي الحقيقة فاطلبه تجد عملاً

    موطَّداً فوق أركانٍ وأطواد

    It is the truth, so seek it you'll find deeds

    Firm on pillars and pegs

  18. وهي الحياة وروح اللَه يسكنُها

    من مال عنها حوى تقطيعَ أكباد

    It is life, and God's Spirit dwells within it

    Whoever turns away from it contains shredded livers

  19. وهي الوفاء فلا ترج الوفا أبداً

    بغيرها إنَّ دَيْنَكْ دَيْنُ نَقَّادِ

    It is loyalty, so never expect loyalty

    Except through it, your religion is of demanding creditors

  20. وهي الشفيع فباب اللَه منفتحٌ

    بها وباب حجيمٍ مُوصَدٌ هاد

    It is the intercessor, so God's door is open

    Through it, and the huge door is closed, guided

  21. وهي الدليل ومجد اللَه مدلولٌ

    بها وفيها أرى عَربونَ إرشاد

    It is the guide, and God's glory is indicated

    Through it, in it I see a token of guidance

  22. تلكم منارة قدس القدس حاملةً

    أنوارَ أعمالٍ نُسّاكٍ وزُهّاد

    That is the lighthouse, the holy of holies bearing

    The lights of deeds of ascetics and devout

  23. وهي السماء التي أفراحُها أبداً

    تنمو بسُكّانها في ذلك الوادي

    It is the heaven whose joys eternally

    Grow with its inhabitants in that valley

  24. أنْطونيوس إسُّها إرْسانيُوس قبسٌ

    ينير أولادَها من مكر حسّاد

    Antonius is a flame that illuminates its children

    From the cunning of envious ones

  25. بُخومِيُوس مُرشدٌ هادٍ برُتبتها

    مكاريوس مرشدٌ أبناها للنادي

    Boukhmius the guide, leading in his rank

    Mcaruis the guide who built it for the club

  26. سمعان عامودها الراقي بأولها

    إسحاق يروي هداها الموضعَ الهادي

    Simeon its lofty pillar in its beginning

    Isaac who waters its guided place

  27. إفرام كينارُها بِيمِينُ آلتُها

    باسيليوس مدحُها في طيبِ إنشاد

    Ephrem is its harp, his instrument in his right hand

    Basilius who praised it in beautiful chant

  28. إكليمكُس سلمٌ لله يَصعدُها

    إغناطيوس تاجها بالعلم ذا ناد

    Clement is a ladder to God ascending it

    Ignatius its crown in knowledgeable circles

  29. إكليلها ثاقبُ الأنوار تنظمُه

    درُّ الفضائل غير الجوهر المادي

    Its crown piercing lights, strung

    By the pearl of virtues beyond material substance

  30. ادفع خطاياكَ بالصدقات تَمحصُها

    نَصّاً مقولاً أتى من خالقٍ فاد

    Repel your sins with charity to purify them

    With a spoken text from the Giving Creator

  31. يا من يبِعْ نفسه للَه معتَمداً

    نيراً خفيفاً يفُقْ إحسان جوّاد

    O you who sells himself to God relying

    On an easy yoke that inspires a generous steed

  32. محجة الزهد صلبٌ لا يَزال به ال

    إنسان ممتنعاً عن كل ترداد

    The proof of asceticism is firm, through it no

    Human remains immune from all hesitation

  33. هب لي إلهي برهبانيتي أدباً

    بل غيرةً واجتهاداً غير مُنصاد

    Grant me my God through my monasticism, discipline

    And even zeal and striving without slackening

  34. حتى إذا شعرت نفسي بنُقلتها

    تُصيب إسكيمَها مِرقاةَ إصعاد

    Until my soul feels in its transference

    It reaches the rung of ascension

  35. طوبى نفوسٍ قضت بالنسك مدَّتَها

    وويل نفسٍ أتت والإثمُ ذا باد

    Blessed are the souls who spent their term in asceticism

    But woe to the soul that came while evil ruins

  36. رجوت ربي ولكني امرؤٌ وجِلٌ

    إذ كان فعلي خسيساً بين زهاد

    I hoped in my Lord but I am a fearful man

    When my deeds are miserable among ascetics
