قَد جَمَحَ الهَجرُ بِمَن لَم يَكُن

يَنزِلُ عَن ظَهرِ ذَلولِ الوِصال

Parting has wearied one who did not live

off the back of submissive intimacy.

غَريبِ حُسنٍ ما اِهتَدى حُبُّهُ

إِلَيَّ إِلّا بَدليلِ الدَلال

An alien beauty whose love found

its way to me only with a guide.

إِذا قَضى المَشيُ بِجورٍ قَضى

عَلَيهِ بِالعَذلِ مِنَ الإِعتِدال

When walking leads to tyranny, it is remedied

by moderation and justice.
