O protector of honor, curse be upon all who forbid protection

And those who do not accept bold plunging and demolition

For life is but to die with honor

And death is but to live and be safe

I contemplated the turns of time but found

None save the sharp swords that make peace through submission

And I saw no escape from peace except for those

Who come late and count safety as profit

They say the face of the sword is ever white

Yet it is not white unless it is red with blood

If fending off harm through wisdom is decisive

Then fending off harm through harm is more prudent

The people of the West disregard any issue

Unless swords come into it translated

And some stubborn people look with eyes

Blinded by ignorance more than blindness

Adrianople, O mother of beauties and protection

To the Ottoman house as fence and stronghold

We owed you, as the best of its people

And protector of us, the most honorable and generous

We gave you long eras but did not cease

Being merciful to your people from Basitia

But when the reformers came to you supposedly

They returned those gardens to hell

Look, Ferdinand you went too far transgressing

And claimed much falsehood in the valley of misguidance

And you attacked men, betraying pacts and treachery

Who have become, from your conspiracies, tranquil

Men who among themselves have some disputes

By God's decree were unavoidable among them

This kingdom was exposed by you and by them

To two arrows, both their tips destroyed

Adrianople, if only rocks could speak

On the day of their return, they would surely lament

    No stallion returned except neighing

    No knight except crying loudly

No mare except wiping its tears

Protectors of honor fierce like torrents overflowing

No pulpit left without blooming joy

With a preacher standing reciting poetry

The eyes of the Chosen One relaxed in his shrine

And Jesus son of Mary cheered him in Paradise

You hastened to take from us wide citadels

Why, when Thursday has come, so stirred up?

A Thursday, when intentions are sincere, I see it

Encamp with its victory wherever it settles

Look at the slopes of mountains now tranquil

And speak of the vast ocean now quiet

Its regions shine with the first light of might

Escorted by what is underneath the chests mingled

Followed by every strong and fierce hero

Who smiles when death's gloom frowns

You see them lions in battle and excluding others

And in the horizon of glory, full moons and stars

Who will tell the Bulgarians that we are marching to battle

All Arabs and Turks are one brotherhood

To them, from them, they seek advancement

The Arabs and Turks will remain one nation

    Pure white, never to split

And say to them bright fortune has appeared so always

Keep your hearts forever longing for it

It will remain Ottoman despite your noses

And the noses of other critics shouting blame

So do not let any hopes tempt you

Never open this issue of Adrianople

Adrianople has become, for us, after Mecca

And the water of Murad today resembles Zamzam

O what a day that came in our struggles

Like a towering mountain in the face of dark gloom

And the remnants were crying but have become

Laughing with them happily like angels of heaven

The world persists with bliss and sorrow

And days persist with misery and bounty

May each day after Adrianople's day

Return as holiday and season to Islam

It is not difficult for the Master that we see

    Tranquility erase that advancing gloom
