O sons of Othman, rejoice, for great favor has your Lord bestowed

You have attained the goal which mighty men before you failed to reach

Good fortune came upon you suddenly, dispersing woeful plights

God's promise was fulfilled, ease succeeding hardship in its flight

Despair's veil had stood between, but now is torn away

How many a corpse will the Judge raise from its slumbering clay!

How far astray were your imaginings! "We are doomed," you would say

Yet without any pact, God changed your state, night transmuted into day

So you might find compassion in the morn, and thanks in memory's ray

Knowing none but Allah is Lord, beside Whom none can hurt or profit one

He willed the Orient's stumbling should by His mantle be o'errun

And inspired our Caliph, whose name is "Shadow," though dust-bound flesh may tire

To scatter largesse on mankind, as rain the thirsting earth entire

By his grace you have found new life, while in some breasts envy rankles

His peace and safety came to you, while neighbors fled with bloodied ankles

For you they feared the worst, but in other lands how cheap the captive throng!

Can one so gracious, fatherly, mean us any harm or wrong?

A leader each day showing the East his noble obligation

An age of troubles found in him a rock against temptation

He tamed authority's caprice, curbing it with discretion wise

Through governance his clouds pour down as rain in distant skies

Had he achieved naught else, the Road by which the nations thrive

Would have sufficed, though gloried by Abu'l-Zahra's voice alive

He who showered such boons on men, like hottest summer rain impearling

A people sunk in darkened night by him saw bright days unfurling

Glad tidings in a people's ears! Once drunk, now intoxication past

Lightning brought us the great news and poured the clouds in joy at last

Blest the time, blest the day when such great fortune came to bless us

Life renewed, forget now the grievous past's distress and hopelessness

Thanks, our brothers steadfast! In those grim hours firm and dutiful

Value their nobility, reward their loyalty bountiful!

Long you stood, long you gazed out helpless from the river's edge

Do not dwell on days now gone, for sweeter draughts today we pledge

Long was night's oblivious gloom, but dawn has lit the revels anew

No excuses left for failing, like one who fasted not when due

Give your lives for the Commander of the Faithful and your pride

Kinship with Uthman will lift you ever to glory's side

A new golden age will come through his munificence sublime

hands outstretched to bless your brows through all advancing time

Prepare for the coming days - the future is here, fresh and green!

He has sanctioned consultation - take counsel, should you lead
