ما كَانت أبزُو بلدةً مذكُورَة

ولَها مِنَ ابصَار الورَى تحدِيقُ

Abuzza was not a well-known town

That drew the eyes of people from afar

حتى ثَوَيتَ بها ففَاوحَ ذِكرُها

طِيبا أَريجَ المِسكِ وهو فَتِيق

Until you settled there, and its fame spread

Sweet like the fragrance of musk when aired

وغدت تُشَدُّ لها الرِّحالُ وأصبحَت

بالزائرِينَ لهَا تغَصُّ طَرِيق

And people began journeying there while

Its paths became crowded with visitors

عفواً أبا العبَّاس لا تَكُ عَاتبا

عمَّا جَناه من الذُّنوب صَدِيق

Forgive me, Abu Al Abbas, do not blame

A friend for the sins he has attained

إنّي وحَقِّكَ ما ارتكَبتُ جِنايةً

عَمدا ولا قد خَانني التَّوفيقُ

I swear by your right that no crime

I have intentionally committed or lacked right

ما شِمتُ منك تعَبُّسا مِن غُرَّةٍ

ألبِشرُ فيهَا للأنامِ طَلِيقُ

I have never frowned at you suddenly

When I bring good news to people, delighted

لكن عَلِمَت تكَاسُلاً مِن شاعرٍ

يشكُو التَكاسُلَ في ابتِلاعِه رِيقُ

But I knew the laziness of a poet

Who complains of laziness while swallowing saliva

عَفوا جميلاً عن وُعُودٍ أُخِلفَت

فَلأنتَ بالعفوِ الجميلِ خَلِيقُ

Forgive beautifully for promises broken

For you are fit for such beautiful forgiveness
