1. أُكَتِّمُ مابي لو يَدومُ التَّكتُّمُ

    ولكنه هَمٌّ به القَلبُ مُفعَمُ

    I conceal what is within me were concealment to last

    Yet my heart is obsessed with an overwhelming anxiety

  2. بني وطني إنَّ الشعوبَ وأَهلَها

    قدِ استَيقظت طُرّاً وأنتمُ نُوَّمُ

    My homeland, the nations and their people are awake

    While you slumber unaware

  3. هو الوطنُ المحبوبُ يَرجو منَ أهلِهِ

    سَماعاً لِشَكواهُ وأهلهُ أَنتُمُ

    It is the beloved homeland that hopes for its people

    To hear its complaints - and you are its people

  4. مضى زَمنُ الجهلِ الذَّميمِ زَمانُهُ

    وهذا زمانُ آنَ فيه التَّعَلُّمُ

    The time of blameworthy ignorance has passed

    This is the time for learning to dawn

  5. فبِالعِلمِ شادوا في البِحارِ مَساكِناً

    وفيها معَ الحيتانِ عاموا وعَوَّموا

    With knowledge they built dwellings amidst the seas

    Living there with whales, floating and swimming

  6. وبالعلمِ سارت في السماءِ ركابُهُم

    وقد أسرجوا متنَ الرِّياحِ وألجمَوا

    With knowledge they rode the winds across the skies

    Saddling the breezes and taming them

  7. وبِالعلمِ إن كانوا جُلوساً بِمَشرِقٍ

    وفي الغَربِ من يَبغي الكلامَ تَكَلَّموا

    With knowledge if they gather in the east

    They can speak to those seeking speech in the west

  8. وبالعلم قد أفنى الفريقانِ بَعضَهُم

    وما اختلفت بينَ الفريقينِ أَسهُمُ

    With knowledge both camps destroyed one another

    No arrows could distinguish the two camps

  9. أتاكم زَمانٌ يطلُبُ العِلمَ مِنكُمُ

    بِجِدٍّ فإن لم تَطلُبوا العِلمَ تَندَموا

    An era has come demanding knowledge from you

    Seek it earnestly or you will regret

  10. ومالي أرى هذي العوائدَ أصبَحَت

    واضرارُها فينا تَزيدُ وتَعظُمُ

    Why do I see our morals have become

    Corrupted, increasing harm among us

  11. فهل من دَواءٍ لِلعوائِدِ إنَّها

    إذا تُرِكَت في الجِسمِ لا شَكَّ تُعدِمُ

    Is there a cure for morals? Leave them

    In the body and they will surely destroy

  12. أشَدخُ رُؤوسٍ كُلَّما حانَ مَوسِمٌ

    ونَهشُ أفاعٍ نَهشُهُنَّ مُحَرَّمُ

    I worry when the seasons come around

    And the vipers bite with unlawful venom

  13. أَمِن شَرَفِ الإنسانِ يَدخُلُ بَيتَهُ

    عَواهرُ في تَنهاقِها تَتَنَغَّمُ

    Is it honorable for a man to allow

    Prostitutes to enter his home singing?

  14. يُشارِكُهُنَّ الأُنسَ في بيتِ أهلِه

    وإنهُ شيءٌ بعدَ إثمٍ مُذَمَّمُ

    Sharing intimacy with his wife and family

    That is truly disgraceful and condemnable

  15. بِرَبِّكَ قُل لي كيفَ تُصبِحُ مَن رَأت

    قَرينَتَها بِالأمسِ تَزهو وتَنعَمُ

    Tell me, by your Lord, how can a woman wake up

    When just yesterday, she saw her husband happy

  16. عليها منَ التِّيجانِ كلُّ مُرَصَّعٍ

    وفي جِيدِها العِقدُ البديع المُنَظَّمُ

    Wearing crowns and necklaces around his neck

    Now suddenly morose and sullen

  17. أمَا إنَّها تَصبو لِفِعلِ قَرينَةٍ

    ولو أنَّهَا بينَ العَفائِفِ مَريمُ

    She turns despondent because of her husband’s deeds

    Even if she were the devoutest Mary

  18. فَقُل أى ورَبِّي إنَّهُ الحَقُّ واعتَرِف

    ونفسَكَ لا تَخدَع فإِنَّك مُسلِمُ

    Say: By my Lord this is the truth, acknowledge it

    Do not fool yourself for you are Muslim

  19. كانكَ يا مغرورُ نِلتَ سُرورَها

    إذا هِىَ مِن فَرطِ السُّرورِ تَبَسَّمُ

    You foolish man, you delighted in her joy

    As she smiled to conceal her sorrows

  20. تُريكَ ابتِساماتِ السُّرورِ وإنَّها

    لَتَكتُمُك الشيءَ الذي هِىَ تَكتُمُ

    She showed you joyous smiles while hiding

    That which she hid, the least of it—had you not been tricked—

  21. وأصغَرُ مَا يَكتمَن لو كُنتَ خَأدِعا

    ولكنَّه الشيءُ الذي أنتَ تعلَمُ

    You would have known. But the veiled woman is blameless

    When she comes to do horrid acts she learned from her husband

  22. وَمَعذورةٌ ذاتُ الحِجابِ إذَا أتَت

    شَنائعَ أعمالٍ بها الزَّوجُ مُغرَمُ

    The burden of worry I bear grows heavier

    A worry that touches one’s honor is greatest of all

  23. لَعَمرِىَ إنَّ الهَمّ يَعظُمُ حَملُهُ

    وهَمٌّ يَمسُّ المَرءَ في العِرضِ أَعظَمُ

    My children, to you I complain of this treatment

    I have no grievance but you, and none to seek redress from other than you

  24. أليكم بني الأَوطانِ أشكو صَنيعَكُم

    ولم أَشكُ إلا منكمُ وإلَيكمُ

    For the sake of Allah, do not downplay your rights

    Rise to combat the proponents of corruption

  25. ولا أرتَجي فَرداً سِواكُم لِنُصرَتي

    فَعَن حربِ أنصارِ العَوائِدِ صَمِّموا

    And heed my advice—though it cuts deep—

    My maxim has reached you, and God knows best

  26. ولا تَبخَسوا باللهِ قَدرَ حُقوقِكُم

    بني المَغرِبِ الأقصى فأَنتمُ أنتمُ

    He knows what lines I sketch and trace

    Leave me be, my heart cannot bear

  27. هنا قِف قليلا بي لِتَسكُنَ لَوعتي

    وَيدري يَراعي ما يَخُطُّ ويَرسُمُ

    The moment has come for blood to pour from my tears

    Leave me be with my advice, though it bites

  28. ودَعني وما يَقوَى الفؤادُ لِحَملِهِ

    فقد آن أن يَنهَلَّ مِن مُقلَتِي الدَّمُ

    My statement has reached its target, God is highest!

  29. ودَعني وذا نُصحي وإن كانَ قارِساً

    وذا مَبلًَغي في العِلمِ واللهُ أعلمُ
