The sun, jaundiced from the pain of parting,

Bids farewell with a glancing eye.

    والبُعدُ فيه السُّقمُ لِلأجرامِ

    In union lies the healing of souls from melancholy;

In separation dwells sickness of bodies.

If bodies in the firmament of heaven

Are clad in the garb of illness from ardour,

And you see, from the intensity of what has exhausted its hues,

It turns yellow from remoteness and from sorrows,

How many hearts have we, that were ruined

By the piercing arrows of the archers of calamities!

And the heat of parting increases them,

Though created frail inside the bodies.
