وبينَ يديهِ تلميذٌ صغيرُ

عليه مِنَ الملاحةِ كادَ يَربُو

A small student before him

Who was so clever he nearly grew up

فَحِرتُ ولستُ أدرِي يَا رِفَاقي

أَ لِلتلميذ أم للشَّيخ أصبُو

So I was confused, my friends,

Should I applaud the student or the teacher?
