1. نَظَرَت بِلَحظٍ بالقلُوب لَعُوبِ

    وتَرنَّحَت زهوا بقَدِّ قَضِيبِ

    She glanced with a look that set hearts aflutter,

    Swaying coquettishly with her slender form.

  2. وتبسَّمت لُطفا فأشرَقَ ثغرُها

    وجلا غَياهبَ فرعِها المسحُوب

    She smiled charmingly, lighting up her lips,

    Her braided hair shone, trailing long and loose.

  3. ورنَت عيونُ الناظرِين لِخَالِها

    فَتوعَّدت مِن خدِّها بِلَهيبِ

    The eyes of onlookers delighted in her beauty,

    So she threatened them playfully from her cheek.

  4. وَجَلَت لنا ذهبيةً في الكأسِ مِن

    كفٍّ بِلونِ إنائِها مخضُوبِ

    She came to us golden in a goblet, poured

    From a hand the hue of its dyed vessel.

  5. وجرَى لنا مَعَها مِن الأنباءِ ما

    يَرويه عَبدُ المالِك بنُ قَرِيب

    She brought us news that would satisfy

    Even Abdelmalik, son of Qareeb.

  6. أخذَت بأُذنِ العُود حتى ألصَقَت

    به خدَّها وحنَت بسمعِ رَقيبِ

    She took the lute’s ear and pressed it

    To her cheek, bending close to hear it speak.

  7. ولقد أسرَّت ما أسرَّتهُ لَهُ

    والسمعُ في التَّصدِيق والتكذِيبِ

    What she whispered to it was indeed a secret-

    Hearing is torn between truth and falsehood.

  8. حَسِبَتهُ يَكتمُ سِرَّها ولقد وَفَى

    لكن نرَاه صَاحَ كالمضرُوب

    She thought he would keep her secret, but lo!

    We see him cry out as if beaten.

  9. مزَجَت بصوتِه صوتَها فتَمازَجا

    وشَدَت بِلَحنٍ في الحشَا مسكُوبِ

    Their voices mingled until they were one,

    Poured forth in song into the still night.

  10. الحُبُّ والإخلاص ملءُ فُؤادِنَا

    لأمِيرنا ومَليكِنا المحبُوب

    Love and loyalty fill our hearts

    For our prince and beloved king.

  11. إخلاصُنا للعرش شيءٌ واجبٌ

    هذا قضَاء الوَاجِب المطلُوب

    Our loyalty to the throne is sacred duty,

    This is the required and sought response.

  12. سُبحانَ مَن وضعَ البلادَ بِكفِّه

    وأحاطهُ مِن أهلِها بقُلوبِ

    Glorious is He who placed the lands in His palm

    And enveloped its people in His care!

  13. فأصَارَ منه الجِسمَ قلبا نابضاً

    وقلوبُنا كالجِسم في التَّحجِيبِ

    He made His body their pulsating heart

    While our hearts envelope them like a shield.

  14. فانبِض بحقِّك نبضَةً سَنَويَّة

    بحَياة عصر العلمِ والتَّهذِيب

    Pulse with a yearly beat in Your name

    With the life of an age of knowledge and refinement!

  15. عَصرٍ تَرشَّفنَا به ثَغرَ المُنَى

    وانجَاب ليلُ جَهالةٍ وخُطُوب

    An age that cured the thirst of hopes,

    And whose night gave birth, dispelling gloom.

  16. مَلِكٌ تربَّع فوقَ عرشِ قلوبنا

    قبلَ العُروجِ لعَرشِه المنصُوب

    A king who mounted the throne of our hearts

    Ere ascending the erected throne.

  17. ذَكَر الأنامُ أُصولَه وخِصالَه

    فأضَافَ مَورُوثا إلى مَكسُوب

    People recount his origins and merits-

    Inheritance augmented by gains.

  18. إن واعَدتهُ بالوفاءِ قُلُوبُنا

    ما كان وعدُ الحُرِّ بالمكذُوب

    If our hearts have pledged him loyalty,

    The word of the free man is no falsehood.

  19. انبِض بعِيد العرشِ عرشِ مسَرَّةٍ

    للشعبِ من شُبَّانه والشِّيبِ

    Pulse with the celebration of the throne’s anniversary!

    For his people, youths and old.

  20. اليومَ عيدُ التاجِ تاجِ محمَّدِ

    ظِلِّ الأنامِ وسُؤلِهِ المرغوبِ

    This is Mohammed's crown day, the shadow

    Of people, and their cherished desire.

  21. أكرِم به عِيدا تَجلَّى طَلعةً

    للِقاكَ بالتأهِيل والترحِيب

    Grace it with a feast showing the rise

    Of this day honoring and lauding You.

  22. واهنأ بِبدرٍ ساطِعٍ مِن غُرَّةٍ

    لوَليِّ عهدِك خيرِ كلِّ نَجِيب

    And congratulate on the full moon of the first

    Day, Your crown prince, the best of nobles.

  23. لِله مِن مُستقبلٍ له زاهرٍ

    بالنُّور فوقَ جَبينِه مكتُوب

    By God, the glorious future in store for him

    On his brow is written in light!

  24. اهنَأ به واهنأ بِطالِع سَعدِه

    واهُزز برَوضِ النصرِ عِطفَ قَضِيب

    Congratulate him and his fortunate star;

    Brandish your club in the field of victory!

  25. هَذِي فرنسَا وهيَ خَيرُ حَبيبةٍ

    لِلعَرش وهوَ لها أعزُّ حبِيب

    Behold France, the best of beloved friends

    To the throne, and he its dearest friend.

  26. قد شارَكتنا في السُّرور بعيدِهِ

    لله ما أحلى التحادَ شُعُوب

    It shared our joy in his holiday-

    How lovely is the oneness of peoples!

  27. ولتَفخَرِ الحَمرَا ويَفخَرَ أهلُهَا

    مِن كلِّ ناءٍ منهمُ وقَريبِ

    Let the red rejoice and its people glory

    In every close or distant kinship.

  28. بمَزيَّةِ السَّبقِ التي نالت به

    ذا اليومِ يَومِ فخَارِها المنسُوب

    In its distinction that it attained on

    This, its day of pride long extolled!

  29. ويدُومُ باشاها الذي قد دَامَ مُخ

    لِص وُدِّه في مَشهَدٍ ومَغيب

    May its Pasha live long, for he persevered

    Loyally, nearby and from afar.
