1. السِّحر هذا مَا أرَى

    أم تِلكَ أحلامُ الكَرَى

    This magic is what I see

    Or are those dreams of delusion

  2. بل هِيَّ أفكارُ الورَى

    أتت بِعُجبِ العَجَبِ

    Rather, they are ideas of intimacy

    That came with wonder of wonders

  3. كُرةُ الأرضِ انكمَشت

    في بعضِها بعضٍ مَشَت

    The globe has shrunk

    Into itself it curled

  4. وفي حَشاهُ عَشَّشَت

    فالشرقُ جارُ المغرِب

    And in its folds it nested

    So East is neighbor of West

  5. يا لَخطيبٌ قد سكَن

    مِنبَرهُ فكُلّ مَن

    O what an orator who has fallen silent

    His pulpit so whoever

  6. يَشاؤُه علَيه أن

    يطلبَه فيخطُبِ

    Wants him, upon it let

    Him request him to preach

  7. يَدرِي لُغَى التكالُم

    وليسَ بابنِ آدم

    He knows the language of speech

    And he is no son of Adam

  8. وهو لسَانُ العالَم

    مِن أعجمِي وَعَربي

    He is the tongue of the world

    Of foreigner and Arab

  9. إذا فركتَ أذنَه

    يُقلِّبنَّ جَفنَه

    If you rub his ear

    He turns his eyelid

  10. ثُم يُوالِي لحنَه

    حالَة طفلِ المكتبِ

    Then he resumes his tune

    Like a schoolchild's condition

  11. يَروِي عن المِذياحِ

    بغايَة الإبدَاع

    He narrates about the key

    With utmost creativity

  12. ما لذَّ للأسماعِ

    مِن كلَِّّ شيءٍ مُعجبِ

    What pleased the ears

    From everything wondrous

  13. فكلُّ حادثٍ جرَى

    ممَّا ترَى أو لا تَرى

    So every event that occurred

    Of what you see or don't see

  14. في الحِين عنه أخبَرا

    بالصِّدقِ أو بالكَذبِ

    Right then he informs

    With truth or lies

  15. وكم تغنَّى بِنَغَم

    يطرُدُ عنك كلَّ غَم

    And how he sang with melody

    That dispels all gloom

  16. يَشِفي بها داءَ الصَّمَم

    من أُذنِ مَن لم يَطرَبِ

    That cures deafness' illness

    From the ear of those not thrilled

  17. مَيدانُه رَحبُ الفضَا

    وسَيرُه البرقُ أضَا

    His field is vast space

    And his pace is lightning speed

  18. ومثلُه مِثلُ القَضَا

    في سَيرِهِ لَم يُحجَبِ

    And he is like fate

    In his course, unhindered

  19. وكَم أفادَ مِن حِكَم

    وكَم رَوَى عنِ الأُمَم

    And how much wisdom he provided

    And how many tales of nations

  20. وكَم وكَم وكَم وكَم

    مِن مُعجِزاتِ الأدبِ

    And how, how much and how much

    Of literature's miracles

  21. وهو أديبٌ كيِّسُ

    فالبِالحديثِ يَهمِسُ

    He is a wise literatus

    So gently he whispers

  22. إن منه ذا تلتَمِسُ

    وله صَوتُ الغضَبِ

    If from him you seek

    And he has the voice of wrath

  23. بَريدُهُ الأثيرُ

    علَى الهوَى يَسيرُ

    His messenger is ether

    By fancy he saunters

  24. كأنَّه المقدُورُ

    يَجدُّ في التغيُّبِ

    As if he is preordained

    Busy with disappearance

  25. ما سُرعةُ الضياءِ

    ما البرقُ في السَماء

    What speed of lightning

    What is lightning in the sky

  26. ما لَمحُ عَينِ الرائي

    أمامَه إن يركَب

    What a glimmer of the seer's eye

    Before it, if it rides

  27. لو كان لِي من قُدرةٍ

    في عَشوتِي وبكرَتِي

    If I had any power

    In my prime and morn

  28. مَائَة ألفِ مرَّةٍ

    أفرِكُ أُذنَ اللَّولبِ

    A hundred thousand times

    I'd rub the ear of the cone

  29. قضَى على العُزلةِ لا

    يُخافُ مَعهُ مللا

    He ends isolation, no

    Boredom with him feared

  30. إن كان مَعكَ فالملا

    منكِ ذوو تَقرُّبِ

    If with you he is, then boredom

    From you, far removed

  31. سجَّلَ ما قد سَجلا

    برانلي ثم عجلا

    He recorded what recorded

    Branly then in a hurry

  32. فالذكرُ منه بُجلا

    على لِسان الحِقَبِ

    So mention of him prominently

    On the tongue of eras

  33. به ذَوُوه تفخَرُ

    وخيرُ ما يُذَّخَرُ

    With it those boast

    And best what hoarded

  34. لِلفخرِ حين يُذكَرُ

    العلمَ فَالعِلمَ أطلُبِ

    For pride when mentioned

    Is knowledge, so knowledge seek

  35. بالعلمِ طارَ الأمَمُ

    وفي السماء هوَّمُو

    With knowledge nations rose

    And in the sky they coveted

  36. وأسرَجُوا وألجَمُوا

    مَتنَ الهوَى في السُّحبِ

    And saddled and bridled

    The steed of desire in the clouds

  37. بالعِلم سارُوا في البِحَار

    واستخدَموا به البُخَار

    With knowledge they sailed the seas

    And used steam with it

  38. والكَهربَاءُ في استِعَار

    تَخرِقُ سِرَّ الحُجُبِ

    And electricity in its borrowings

    Pierces veils' mysteries

  39. فمِن مَعينِه أغرِفِ

    ومن جَناه اقتطِف

    So from its spring draw

    And from its branches pluck

  40. لا سيَما وأنتَ في

    عصرِ مليكِنا الأبِي

    Especially you who are in

    The era of our father

  41. مُحمدِ بنِ يوسُف

    سَليلِ بيتِ الشرَفِ
