1. إن يَكُن غَيريَ تابَا

    فاجعَلِ العفوَ عِقَابا

    If another has erred,

    Make forgiveness your punishment.

  2. إنمَا العفوً علَيه

    يُغنِمُ المرءَ الثَّوَابا

    Surely in forgiving him

    One gains reward.

  3. يا ابنَ عبد ِاللهِ يا من

    خُلقُه كالمِسك طابا

    O son of Abdullah, O you whose nature

    Is as sweet as musk,

  4. ولهذا لا نرَى مِن

    فعلِه إلا صوابا

    We see in your actions

    Nothing but right.

  5. لا تُعذِّبنِي بهَجرٍ

    إنَّه كانَ عَذابا

    Torment me not with estrangement,

    For it was anguish indeed.

  6. فمتَآ يا بدرُ نقوَى

    أن نرَى منكَ احتجَابا

    So shine, O full moon, with your splendor,

    That we see no more veiling from you.

  7. مثلُ ذاك الحُسنِ لا يَق

    سُو على صَبٍّ أنابا

    Beauty like yours cannot properly

    Adorn anyone but the repentant.

  8. لَو تَراني أقطعُ اللي

    لَ بُكاءً وانتِحَابا

    If you could see me spend the night

    Weeping and tossing about.

  9. ذُو ضَمير لم أُطِق مِن

    هُ عِقابا وحِسَابا

    Of a conscience I cannot bear

    Punishment or reckoning from you.

  10. لَرثَى مولاَي للمُن

    سكبِ الدَّمعِ انسِكَابا

    I would mourn, my master, shedding

    Tears pouring forth.

  11. لرَثى مولاي للمُو

    جَعِ قَلبا مِنه ذابا

    I would mourn, my master, my heart

    Melting away from anguish.

  12. مِثلُ ذاكَ الخُلقِ الطا

    هرِ لا يَرضَى عِتَأبا

    A nature so pure does not accept

    Being shunned.

  13. لا تُجَازينِي ببُعدٍ

    مِنكَ قد كَان اقتِرَابا

    Do not repay me with distance,

    When nearness had been.

  14. وَلِمَ الصهبَاء إِن لا

    بُدَّ لِي مِنك عِتَابا

    Why aloofness, when I have no choice

    But to chide you?

  15. يا خفيفَ الرُّوحِ إني

    مُثقَلُ الرَّاس شرَابا

    O gentle spirit, I am

    Heavy headed from drink.

  16. حاضرُ الجسمِ ولكِن

    عقلُه قد كَانَ غَابا

    Present in body, but my mind

    Had wandered.

  17. إنَّ خيرَ الناس مَن أذ

    نبَ ذنبا ثُم تَابا

    Truly, the best of people is one who

    Commits a sin then repents.

  18. وأجِب قلبَ خَلِيلٍ

    يَرتَجِي منكَ جَوابا

    And answer the heart of your dear friend

    Who hopes for a response from you.
