أخرجَني مُفَضَّلٌ

عَن عادَتي المُفَضَّلَه

Mufaddal led me away

From my preferred habit

قد كنتُ أهجو النَّابهي

نَ مِن عُتاةِ الجَهَلَه

I used to satirize the arrogant

Among the ignorant transgressors

مثلُ أبي جهلٍ وجي

شِ المُشركينَ السَّفَلَه

Like Abu Jahl and Jaysh

The base polytheists

فَصِرتُ أهجو تافِهاً

نكِرَةً لا وزنَ لَه

So I began to satirize unimportant men

Worthless, without merit
