أهلاً بِجُرحٍ لَيتَهُ يَتَكَرَّرُ

فعلى تَكَرُّرِ جَمعكُم لا أصبِرُ

I welcome a wound, if only it could be repeated,

For at your repeated gatherings, I cannot be patient,

لم يَلتَئم في الرأسِ جُرحٌ قد بَدا

حتى تَركتُم جُرحَ قلبي يَقطُرُ

No wound in my head had yet healed,

When you left a wound in my heart dripping,

إن يَلتَئم يا جُرحُ جَمعُ أحِبَّتي

فلَلتلتئم أو لا فأنتَ مُخَيَّرُ

If the wound heals, O wound, the gathering of my loved ones,

Then let it heal or not, for you have the choice,

أأَحِبَّتي عَفوا إذا ما كنتُ عَن

شُكرِ العواطِفِ مِنكمُ لا أقدِرُ

My loved ones, pardon me, if I am unable,

To appreciate your kind feelings,

بِعواطفِ الإخلاصِ قَد ذابت عَوا

طِفُكُم وللإخلاصِ سِرٌّ مُسفِرُ

With sincere affections, your affections melted,

And sincerity has an evident secret,

بعواطفِ لي القضيب لو يتُمُ

عطفي إلى أن خلته يتكسرُ

With affections to me, if only

My affections for you would break,

هذاك يَنظِمُ مِن عُقودِ بَيانِهِ

وسِواهُ مِن دُرَرِ البلاغة يَنثُرُ

This one composes his words’ necklaces,

While the other scatters the pearls of eloquence,

منكم عُيوناً فوقَ عَيني زِدتُها

أوَ ما بِكُم هذي المَعاني أبُصِرُ

You have given me eyes above my eyes,

Or is it not you, by whom I see these meanings?

لِلَّهِ مِن جَمعٍ تَجانَسَ شَكلُه

كالرَّوضِ لكن بالمَعارِف مُثمِرُ

To God belongs a group whose form is harmonious,

Like a garden, but fruitful with knowledge,

وإذا أنا عن وصفِ حُسنِه عاجِزٌ

عُذراً فمِثلكمُ لِمثلىَ يَعذِرُ

And if I fail to describe its beauty,

Forgive me, for the like of you excuses the like of me.
