إذا جِئتم نقومُ لكم حُفاةً

وإن جِئنا تَزَحزَحتُم قليلا

If you come, we will stand up for you barefoot

And if we come, you shy away a little

فإن كنتم ذوي أدبٍ وعِلمٍ

وذِكركُم سَرى عَرضاً وطُولا

If you are well-mannered and knowledgeable

And your mention spreads widely and long

فقد قال الأنَامُ كذاكَ فِينا

ومَن يَقوى على أن لا يَقولا

Indeed people have said this about us

And who can refrain from saying

لقد كُنَّا وكان الوُدُّ منا

تَزول الرَّاسياتُ ولن يَزولا

We were and affection was between us

Everlasting things disappear but not it

لقد كُنَّا وكان الوُدُّ منا

نَسيماً في الِّرياضِ سَرى عَليلا

We were and affection was between us

A breeze in the gardens that glided frailly

لقد كنا وكان يُرَى كِلانا

خَليلاً لا يَرى إلا خَليلا

We were and both of us seemed

An intimate who sees none but an intimate

نَصولُ بِذِكرِكُم في كلِّ نادٍ

فَنذكُركم لِكَى بكمُ نَصولا

We exult with your mention in every club

So we mention you in order to exult

صِفاتُكَ في المجالِسِ كم عَقَدنا

لها الأبوابَ مَدحاً والفُصولا

Your traits - how many sessions we tied for them

The gates - we praised and the chapters

وطرفُ وِدادِنا أضحى كَلِيلا

فإن هو مِن عُداةٍ فَلتَدَعني

And the edge of our affection has become feeble

So if he is of enemies, leave me

أُمَزِّقُ عِرضَهم عَرضاً وطولا

وإن هو من وُشاةٍ فَلتَدَعني

To shred their honor widely and lengthily

And if he is of slanderers, leave me

أضَغضِغُ في حناجِرهم نُصولا

وإن بقيت بِقلبكمُ علينا

To gag in their throats violently

And if affection remains in your hearts for us

بقايا لست أرغبُ أن تَزولا

I do not hope that it will disappear
