حَشلافُ قد ماتَ ابنه مُردِّداً
لسانَ حالِه لفَرطِ غَمِّه
The horseman's son died, and he kept repeating,
His condition spoke of his extreme sadness.
أىُّ حياةٍ بقيَت لِمَن رَأى
أباهُ يُوتَى في فراشِ أُمِّه
What life remains for one who saw
His father dying on his mother's deathbed.
