1. هل أُريكَ النُّجومَ صارت بُدورا

    أم أُريكَ البُزوغَ أصبحَ نورا

    Have I shown you the stars that have become full moons?

    Or the dawns that have become light?

  2. أم أريكَ الفُروع صارت أُصولاً

    رُبَّ شِبلٍ قد صَار لَيثاً هَصُورا

    Or the branches that have become roots?

    Many a cub that has become a ferocious lion.

  3. صاح لِم لا أرَى منَ الناسِ إلا

    مُفعَمَ القلبِ غِبطةً وسُرورا

    Cry out - why do I see none but

    People with hearts full of joy and delight?

  4. لا أرى غَير طلعةٍ من جَبينٍ

    وثُغورٍ قدِ ابتَسمنَ زُهورا

    I see only the radiance of a forehead

    And cheeks that have blossomed with flowers.

  5. ووجوهٍ قد أشرقَ البِشرُ فيها

    وقُلوبٍٍ قدِ اتَّحَدنَ شُعورا

    And faces that happiness has illuminated,

    And hearts that have unified in feeling.

  6. وتَبدَّت تِطوانُ مثلُ عَروسٍ

    لَبسَت ثَوبَ سُندُسٍ وحَريرا

    And Tetouan appeared like a bride

    Wearing a dress of silk and satin.

  7. قيل إنَّ المَولى الأميرَ الذي صي

    تُه في المَجدِ طَبَّقَ المَعمورا

    It is said that the prince, great in glory,

    Has made prosperous all that was ruined.

  8. قد غدَا حافِلاً بِعُرسٍ سَعيدٍ

    فَلِهَذا فاحَ الوُجُودُ عَبيرا

    For this the existence was fragrant with happiness

    For this you see all the world adorned

  9. ولهذا تَرَى العوالمَ تَزهَى

    وتَرى الكُلَّ بَاسماً مَسرورا

    And all smiling with joy.

    Delegations from every region took pride

  10. ووفوداً من كلِّ قُطرٍ تباهت

    بِقُدومٍ به تُلبِّي البشيرا

    In coming to give glad tidings.

    You see none of the people except

  11. لا ترى إذ تَرى من القومِ إلا

    كلَّ باشا أو قائداً مَشهورا

    Every pasha, leader of renown,

    President, army commander,

  12. أو رئيساً أو قائداً لجُيوشٍ

    أو مُقيماً أو حاكماً أو سفيرا

    Governor, ambassador,

    Dignitary, judge, or noble,

  13. أو وَجيهاً أو قاضِياً أو نَبيلاً

    أو أديباً أو عالماً نِحريرا

    Literate or renowned scholar.

    And congratulations from kings arrived

  14. والتَّهاني منَ المُلوكِ تَوالت

    من جميعِ الأقطارِ تَمطي الأثيرا

    From all corners of the world, filling the air.

    And congratulations of our ruling king, may he be supported and victorious,

  15. وتَهاني مَليكِنا العاهلِ المن

    صورِ دَامَ المُؤَيَّدَ المَنصورا

    Were the crown of all the congratulations,

    When the king sent the minister

  16. كانتِ التَّاجَ للِتَّهاني جميعاً

    حينما أرسلَ المليكُ الوزيرا

    With the best delegations of every brave one,

    By which the elite were content.

  17. معَ خيرِ الوُفودِ من كلِّ شهمٍ

    به طرفُ العَلياءِ باتَ قَريرا

    A king whose era boasts and is proud

    Of past ages and eras.

  18. ملِكٌ عَصرُه تَباهى وباهى

    به مِن سالفِ الزَّمانِ عُصورا

    If you wish to describe him, every talented poet

    Is too narrow in rhyme and verse.

  19. إن تَرُم وصفَه فَكلُّ قَريضٍ

    ضاقَ عنه قَوافياً وبُحورا

    To remain for the people a treasure and reserve,

    Mending their broken wings.

  20. لِيَدُم للِعبادِ كَنزاً وذُخراً

    جابراً مِنهمُ الجناحَ الكَسيرا

    Every day his praise adorns a celebration,

    As necklaces adorn the throats of brides.

  21. كلَّ يومٍ يَزينُ مَدحُه حفلاً

    مثلَما زانتِ العُقودُ النُّحورا

    On nights of festivity they held,

    The like of which time has never seen.

  22. في لَيالٍ للمِهرجَانِ أُقيمت

    لم يُشاهِد لها الزمانُ نَظيرا

    Neither Chosroes could manage to create them,

    Nor could Caesar be an aid to Chosroes.

  23. ليس يقوى كِسرى لإِيجادِها مه

    ما يَكُن قيصرٌ لِكِسرى ظَهيرا

    A night made the day its shirt,

    So you see it embroidered above.

  24. لَيلٌ أضحى له النَّهارُ قَميصاً

    فتَراهُ مِن فوقِه مَزرورا

    The carpet of lights shone beautifully,

    Green as the rainbow, exceedingly fresh.

  25. وبساطُ الأنوارِ يَزهى بَهاءً

    قُزَحيَّ الألوانِ غَضًّا نَضيرا

    And the drums of joy beat tambourines

    Happily, to summon all to gather.

  26. وطبولُ الأفراحِ دَقَّت وُعوداً

    بابتهاجٍ لكى تُجيبَ النَّفيرا

    And the cheers—their voices rose up

    Shouting in the air to illuminate.

  27. والصوائحُ صوتُها قد تَعالى

    صارخاً في الفضاءِ حتى تُنيرا

    And the arts of musical rhythms of every kind,

    Sometimes softly and sometimes loudly.

  28. وفُنونُ التَّطريبِ مِن كلِّ ضَربٍ

    خافِتاً تارةً وطوراً جَهيرا

    From the intensity, when they sang, they bent

    Like tree branches bearing birds.

  29. مِن شُداةٍ إذا تَغَنَّوا تَثَنَّوا

    مثلَ أغصانٍ حاملاتٍ طُيورا

    In a palace as if beauty itself

    Had cast off its embroidered gown upon it.

  30. وسطَ قصرٍ كأنَّمَا خَلَع الحُس

    نُ عليه رِداءَه المَجرورا

    You cannot tell, for the delicate workmanship in it,

    Whether it is engraved or scattered pearls.

  31. لستَ تَدري لِدِقَّةِ الصُّنعِ فيه

    أَنقُوشاً أم لُؤلُؤاً مَنثورا

    And the servers showed us amazing feats—

    My description falls short of their merit.

  32. وأرَتنا الطُّهاةُ من مُعجزَاتٍ

    ظلَّ وصفي لَهُنَّ شيئاً خَطيرا

    And the guards tightened their belts,

    So the men seemed like eagles.

  33. والحَواشي شَدُّوا مَناطقَ حَزمٍ

    فَتَخالُ الرِّجالَ صارت صُقورا

    A wedding that shames the ancient saying,

    A wedding of Buran, eternal, never to fade.

  34. عُرسٌ أضحى يُزري بقولٍ عتيقٍ

    عُرسَ بورانَ سِلعةً لن تَبورا

    Oh, if only you had seen with your eyes like me,

    My emotions would have sufficed for palaces.

  35. آهِ لو كنتَ شاهدَ العينِ مِثلي

    لَكَفَيتَ اليَراعَ مِنِّي القُصورا

    How can emotions suffice to describe a wedding

    That is the wedding of the Most High, Most Powerful?

  36. كيف يَقوى اليراعُ عن وصفِ عُرسٍ

    هو عًرسُ المَولى الأعزِّ نَظيرا

    What meaning could capture it, even if I exhausted

    Every talented poet with abundant verse?

  37. أيُّ مَعنىً يفي بِوصفِه لو أف

    نيتُ في مدحِه القَريضَ الغَزيرا

    Of excellent name and traits—O you whose

    Reputation diffused the scent of musk and perfume.

  38. حَسَنَ الإسمِ والشَّمائلِ يَامَن

    فاوحَ المِسكَ ذِكرُه والعَبيرا

    You who pleased God, the King, the people, the land—

    You who pleased the conscience.

  39. مَن رَضَى اللهَ والمليكَ وأرضَى

    شعبَه والورَى وأرضى الضَّميرا

    You were created for glory—this is

    An inscription of glory upon your brow.

  40. أنتَ لِلمَجد قد خُلقتَ وهذي

    آيةُ المَجدِ في الجبينِ سُطورا

    So command time however you wish and desire,

    And you will see time as your obedient servant.

  41. فَمُرِ الدهرَ ما تَشاءُ وتَرضى

    فترَى الدَّهرَ خادماً مَأمورا

    You are like the sun—whenever an eye saw it

    It lowered its gaze, hapless before its light.

  42. أنتَ كالشَّمسِ كلُّ طَرفٍ رآها ار

    تَدَّ عن ضَوئها كَليلاً حَسيرا

    A gift from you prevents the eye from

    Remaining with it, out of yearning for the sight.

  43. هِبةٌ منكَ تمنعُ الطَّرفَ أن تب

    قى لَدَيهِ مِن شَوقِه مَنظرا

    God has granted you a nature—

    People appreciated its right estimation.

  44. قد حَباكَ المَولى تعالى بِخُلقٍ

    قَدَّرَ الناسُ حَقَّهُ تَقديرا

    So we send you congratulations, hoping

    From God that your eras endure,

  45. فالتَّهاني نَزُفُّها لكَ راجي

    نَ منَ اللهِ أن تَدومَ دُهورا

    Lifting my palms in supplication,

    That you see in posterity abundant good.

  46. رافعاً لِلمَولى أكُفَّ ابتهالٍ

    أن ترَى في الأَحفاد عَداًّ وَفيرا

    And history repeats itself when

    You show me the stars have become full moons.

  47. ويُعيدَ التَّاريخُ نَفسَه لَمّاَ

    أن تُرينا النُّجومَ صارت بُدورا
