With your auspicious arrival, redolent with fragrance

The land is suffused, attaining glory and greatness

Indeed, to the red land, after absence prolonged

Returns the pride, O city adorned in redness!

Indeed, you've returned, graced with care benevolent

The fair lady emulates you, with pearls resplendent

O exalted pasha, valiant and of noble trait

Amongst men of honor, as chest for secrets prudent

Your generosity makes Hatim forgotten in tale

Your fame has traversed over land and over sail

You've blessed Allah's house performing pilgrimage dear

With longing no patience could to fervor curtail

So you pleased the Lord, who summoned you to His abode

Your passion as you visited, joy He did endow

Yet we grieved for the lion cub you left behind

Who resembled your wisdom, resolve and triumph avowed

No subtlety of politics could from him hide

Fierce against foes yet prudent with allies abide

Blessed is the Lord of the throne who granted him rule

For He chooses whom He wills, with honor imbued

You left but the moon remains for the stars as guide

Poets of Egypt! For his praise I do fiercely vie

Take my heart and leave yours be, for to him I bear

Every verse and poetry, passion I can't deny

But composing poetry is duty bound by you

For you're wont to bestow pearls generously strewn

As scales they are balanced, behold them in equity

If one tilts, then the other side up will be hewn

Pay no heed to gossip of deceitful tongues impure

Their twisting of facts with cunning and dishonest lure

Wicked their souls that take vice as habitual affair

If the youth's soul is wicked, in vice he is demure

I won't forget, my Master, to defend my passion

As they sink in their teeth and claws with blatant contortion

Were it not for Your protection winging over me

I'd have poisoned them all and rained flames as retribution!

But the sanctuary of Master is sacred, invincible

Who can dare to even glance at it with hostility?

You've granted me blessing, preserving me in your thoughts

Never to forget you, this I vow faithfully!

So stay as my pillar, your closeness is my life

You're to me a treasure, this is said without strife

I pride myself in you, my Master and my Lord

While I am but Your poet servant, humble and contrite

The melting summer assails me, making health dire

I ask of you leave for a month to recover my desire
