Journey with me—may good be yours—for the sake of a fair company;
they are encamped on the slope of a mountain pass.
Perhaps I may behold my gazelles
appearing from Ḥājir, to take me captive.
Like boughs, there sway among them
supple figures amid dune-heights.
There, among its wonders, it reveals to you faces
whose beauty no veil has concealed.
Pause by the bān trees at Zawd,
for there my heart has made its home.
And say to whoever dwells within its sanctuary:
“Enough for you in love—and enough for me!
Deal gently with us, O dear folk of Najd;
do not forsake us just after drawing near.”
O neighbors who, by staying afar, have wronged
a tormented lover, enamored of them—
you have tortured a sorrowful lover
with your distance; now graciously grant him nearness.
