كُن كيفَ شئتَ فَلستُ عنكَ بسالي

يوماً ولا أُصغي إلى العُذَّالِ

Be as you wish, I do not care

Nor do I listen to blamers

لكَ في الفُؤادِ مكانة لم يدنُها

وهمق ولا في النَّومِ طيفُ خيالِ

You have a place in my heart that no

Depression or dream of imagination has reached

حلَّيتَ من قلبي محَلاًّ لم يَكَد

يَدري بهِ من لاعجِ البَلبالِ

You have settled in my heart in a place that was not

Known to the confused thoughts

وسكنتَ منِّي في الفُؤادِ فلا تَسَل

عن سلوةٍ ما للسُّلُوِّ ومالي

And you lived inside me, so do not ask

About pleasures - I have no interest

فإذا بَعُدت عن العِيانِ فإنَّ لي

في كُلِّ وقتٍ منكَ طيبَ وصالِ

If you are absent from my sight, I still

Have from you at all times a sweet union

أنتَ الأَنيسُ إذا عَرتنِيَ وَحشةٌ

وَبكَ الملاذُ إذا تَغيَّر حالي

You are the intimate friend when loneliness

Assails me, and my refuge when my state changes

وَعلَيكَ مُعتَمدي إذا ما أظلمضت

سُبلُ الهُدى وخشيتُ فرطَ ضَلالبي

And in you I trust when the paths

Of guidance darken and I fear my straying

لَولاكَ ما راحَ الفُؤادُ مُقسَّماً

في عَرفِ رندٍ أو نُسيمةِ ضالِ

If not for you my heart would not be divided

In the wilds of madness or breeze of the lost

كَلاَّ ولا هاجَ البُرَيقُ صَبابَتي

يوماً ولا أَلقى النَّسيمُ سُؤالي

No, nor would my mind race in folly

Nor would the breeze carry my query

وحياة من نقضَ العُهُود وضيَّعَ ال

ميثاقَ ما مَرَّ السُّلُوُّ بِبالي

A life of violating pacts and losing

Promises did not cross my thoughts
