سَمِعتُ لابنِ بُنيمانٍ وَبَغلتِهِ
عَجيبةً خِلتُها إِحدى قَصائَدهِ
I heard of Ibn Buniyan and his she-mule -
A story I made into one of my poems -
قالوا رَمَتهُ وداسَت بالنِّعالِ عَلى
قَفاهُ قُلتُ لَهُم ذا من عَوائِدهِ
They said she kicked him and stamped with her shoe
Upon his nape. I said: That's her custom!
لأَنِّهَا فَعَلت في حَقِّ والدِها
ما كانَ يَفعَلُهُ في حَقِّ والدِهِ
For she did to her father what he would do
In turn, to his own father!
