If the valley and the hills are empty of you
Then what is left for desire and its ways?
Within my heart a home for you now dwells
While your abode is the innermost heart
Or did my heart find in you a dwelling place
Now it is shattered by your departure
As if when I saw a fire blazing
In your valley like a burning coal
My love for you when love grows cold
Is refreshed when yearning renews
My love, my heart - both will always
Remain devoted, through night and day
My passion, though for you it burned
No more, and yet my love does not fade
Talk of you is carried on the breeze
Away from you, as breath it fades
Whoever pines for you as I have pined
Will despair for you as I despaired
From you may gentle breezes blow
And bring you joy and pleasant air
O you who rule the hearts, be kind
To him - have you no pity to spare?
