1. سلِّم سَلمتَ على جيرانِ جَيرونِ

    يا صاحِ عن مستهامِ القلب محزونِ

    You bid farewell to the neighbors of Jayrun

    O companion, distressed at the anxiety in my heart

  2. وخُصَّ جامعَها عني فكم جَمعت

    أكنافُهُ الشَّملَ بالأحبابِ من حِينِ

    And seclude its university from me, for how much

    Its wings have gathered friends since old times

  3. وقِف بمسجدِ خاتونِ فإنَّ به

    وبالُمنيعِ أضحى القلبُ في هُونٍ

    Stand at the Khátún Mosque, for in it

    My heart has become submissive and humble

  4. وأنتَ يا برقُ حيّ النَّيربَينِ بها

    وَأسقِ مزَّتضها سحاً كِسحيَّنِ

    And you, O Birq the alive one of Nayrabayn in it

    And tend its wound healing it like silk

  5. وإن أتيت الحمى وَهناً فحيِّ به

    حَيّا أقاموا بجرمانا وجسرينِ

    And if you come to the fever and here, greet it

    They lived in Jurmana and Jisrín

  6. يُشفى العَليلُ بِرؤُياهُ وتُسعدهُ

    رَوائحٌ خطرت من قلبِ قلبينِ

    The sick one is healed by seeing it and it makes him happy

    Scents that emanated from the heart of two hearts

  7. وأمررُ بِبيروتَ حيثُ الماء مُنحدرٌ

    يسُوخُ بينَ رياضِ للرَّياحينِ

    And I pass by Beirut where the water descends

    Melting between gardens for the small breezes

  8. حيثُ البدورُ على ملدِ الغُصونِ غَدَت

    تختالُ في غَيدِ الأَعطافِ واللًّينِ

    Where the houses on the bending branches have become

    Strutting in the flexing of the twigs and tenderness

  9. أَشرف على الشَّرفِ الأَعلى إِذا سَنَحت

    تِلكَ الظّباءُ بِسَرحاتِ الَميادينِ

    I overlook the highest overlook if time allowed

    Those gazelles in the meadows of the maidan

  10. في يومِ سبتٍ تَرى الأرقاقَ حاملةً

    على المناكبِ أَمثالَ الثَّعابينِ

    On a Saturday you see the shorts carrying

    On their shoulders forms like snakes

  11. وسهمها حيّ ذاكَ فَهو لِقَل

    بي السَّهمُ منهُ سِهامُ الشَّوقِ تُصميني

    And its arrow alive, so it is to say the least

    The arrow from it is arrows of passion that make me lean

  12. وهل يزيدُ يزيدُ الدَّمعَ منكَ كما

    يثُيرنا ماءُ ثَورا ماءُ سيحونِ

    And does the tear from you increase as

    The water of Thawr stirs the water of Sihun

  13. وامطر دمُومعكَ بالميطورِ وابك على

    زمانِ لهوٍ قطعناهُ بعربينِ

    And rain your tears at al-Maytur and cry over

    An era of joy we ended with chariots

  14. وسل حمائم ذاكَ الدوَّحِ مبتكراً

    ينُحنَ شجواً بأَفنانِ البَساتينِ

    And ask the doves of that valley freshly

    Moaning with the beaks of the gardens

  15. حيثُ الشَّقائقُ تُلقي خَدَّها خفراً

    والوردُ يزهو بِمَنثورٍ ونِسرينِ

    Where the anemones lay their cheeks hiding

    And the roses bloom with scattering and nesrin

  16. والنَّرجسُ الغَضُّ قد أَضحَت محاجِرهُ

    تَحكي فُتورَ عُيونِ الخُرَّدِ العِينِ

    And the fresh narcissi, their facets have become

    Telling of the languor of the sleepy eyes

  17. وَلِلبنَفَسَجِ أَنفاسٌ مُعَطَّرةٌ

    تُزري بِصَائحِ عِطرِ الهِندِ والصَّينِ

    And for the violets breaths scented

    Coming from the scent of India and China

  18. منازِلٌ لَم أَجد عن طِيبِها عِوَضاً

    كَلاًَّ وَلو كانَ أَجراً غيرَ مَمنونِ

    Homes that I have not found compensation for their fragrance

    No, even if the reward is countless

  19. وَلا أَبيعُ شَذا ذاكَ النَّسيمِ بِها

    بِمُلكِ مِصرَ ولا أَموالِ قارونِ

    And I do not sell the aroma of that breeze in it

    For the kingdom of Egypt or Qarun's money

  20. ما أَحسَن الوقتَ أَيَّامَ الرَّبيعِ بِها

    لَنَا وأطيَبَهُ أَيامَ تَشرينِ

    How good is the time in spring in it for us

    And its most beautiful days are in Tishrin

  21. تَروقُ في الصيَّفِ لي والحَرُّ مُحَتدمٌ

    وَلَستُ أَكرههُا وَقتَ الكوانينِ

    It is pleasing to me in summer and the heat is blazing

    And I do not dislike it in the time of scorches

  22. ما الَمقسُ داري ولا السَّبعُ الوُجوهِ بها

    ريُّ المقامِ ولَيسَ التَّاجُ تَعنيني

    Maqlis Darí is not my house or the seven-faced lion in it

    The pilgrimage is enjoyable and the crown does not interest me

  23. ولستُ آسفُ يوماً إِن ظعنتُ عن ال

    مِقياسِ والنِّيلُ طَامٍ مِثلُ جَيحونِ

    And I am not sorry if I turn away from the balance and the Nile is turbid like Jayhun

    And I do not see the sight of the pyramids satisfying me

  24. ولا أَرى نَظَر الأهرامِ يُقنِعُني

    عَن جَوسقٍ في رُبا جِديَا وَزبدينِ

    Over a room in Ruba Jdaya and Zabadin

    No, and its two palaces do not distract me

  25. كَلاَّ ولا سَرحهُ القَصرينِ تَقطَعُني

    عن صَحنِ جامِعِها يَوماً وتُلهيني

    From its mosque's courtyard a day and busy me

    And al-Qarafa does not suffice me visiting it

  26. ولا القَرافةُ تُغنيني زِيارَتُها

    عن قاسِيونَ ولا أَرصادُ تَسبيني

    Over Qasyun, nor do the observatories occupy me

    And I do not see my stroll in al-Lauq suitable

  27. ولا أرى نزهتي في اللَّوقِ لائِقةً

    من بعدِ سطرا ومُقُرى والميادينِ

    After Sutra, Muqurra and the maidans

    And I have not compensated for Bab al-Barid with what

  28. ولا تَعوَّضتُ عن بابِ البَريدِ بِما

    أَراهُ في اللَّيلِ مِن سُودِ الدَّخاخينِ

    I see in the night from the darkness of the lamps

  29. هذا حديثي وما طالَ المِطالُ ولا

    حالَ الزَّمانُ وعندي من يُسلِّيني

    The days pass, and I have someone who consoles me

    I will travel away from it while still young

  30. سأُرحِلُ العيسَ عَنها وهي صاغِرةٌ

    إِلى الشَّامِ وأَدنى الرِّزقِ يَكفيني

    To Damascus, and the least livelihood suffices me
