When will your reunion heal the ailing one,
And he recover from love's painful fever?
O you who bar the fever, will I ever
Find my way to you, despite the hatred?
If nights have marched off thanks to you,
You dwell still in the fever of my heart.
O people of the camp, tell me, am I fit
For reunion, now they have come to meet?
The scent of the bramble tells me of you,
Tearfully, like a messenger of love.
I yearn for the morning breeze, when it bears
From you a fragrance to stir my soul.
If the breeze blows your scent here to me,
I'm like the breeze, sick with love of you.
For you I have an old, abiding love
Whose briefest tale of you is very long.
And I have, in your nearness, joy - but when
Will you be near? My patience is not fair.
