ما لِلفؤادِ إذا ذَكرُتكَ يخفِقُ

والدَّمعُ من عيني يسُحُّ ويَدفُقُ

What ails my heart when I remember you, it flutters,

And tears flow from my eyes pouring out,

وإذا رَأيتُكَ فاللِّسانُ نهَى بهِ

خَرَسٌ وَطَري بالمدامعِ ينَطِقُ

And when I see you, my tongue is silenced,

Mute, while my eyes speak with flowing tears.

ما ذاكَ إِلاَّ انَّ قلبيَ مُوثَقٌ

بالأَسرِ منكَ وأنَّ دمعيَ مُطلَقُ

This is only because my heart is imprisoned,

Captive to you, while my tears flow free,

لا غروَ إن خَفَقَ الفُؤادُ وإنَّهُ

في العِطفِ من غُصنِ القَوامِ مُعلَّقُ

No wonder my heart flutters and throbs,

For it is hung from the branch of a swaying tree.

وبمُهجَتي غُصنٌ لهُ من عِطفِهِ

رُمحٌ علَيهِ من الذُّؤابَةِ سِنجَقُ

And to my forehead a branch that sways,

With a spear fastened, swaying to and fro.

أضحَى بقلبيَ ساكناً ووشاحُهُ

أبداً كَمسكيهِ يَجولُ وَيقلَقُ

My heart has settled in and its covering

Forever roams and stirs like musk perfume.

فالعطفُ مِنهُ بالقُلوبِ مُكَلَّلٌ

والخَصرُ من حدقِ العُيونِ مُمنُطقُ

So the branch ensnares hearts in its coils,

And the waist by the eyes' glances is confined.

مِنُه النَّسيمُ سَرَى وفي أَرجائِهِ

نَشرٌ يَضوعُ منَ الُمرورِ وَيَعبقُ

From it the breeze blows gently spreading in its corners,

A diffusing fragrance of sweet passing.

قالَ انتظِر منهُ زِيارَةَ طَيفِهِ

فَلَسوفَ يأَتيكَ الخَيالُ وَيَطرُقُ

It said: "Wait for the phantom of him to visit you,

The apparition will come to you and knock."

مِالي وَللطَّرفِ الطَّروقِ وإِنَّما

كَلَفي بِهِ وَلَهُ أحبُّ وأعشَقُ

What do I have to do with the batting of eyes? For I

Am devoted to him, I love and desire only him.
