لو كنتَ في دعوَى المحبَّةِ تصدُقُ

ما كانَ قلبكَ ساكناً لا يَخفِقُ

If you were truthful in your claim of love,

Your heart would not be still, it would flutter.

لا تدَّعِ ولَهاً وقلبُك فارغٌ

منَّا وأنتَ بغيرنا متعلِّقُ

Do not pretend, while your heart is empty

Of us, as you cling to others.

نزِّه مَواطنَ مثلِنا عن غيرِنا

واقبِل فأنتَ بنا أَحقُّ واليقُ

Keep pure the places of those like us from others,

And welcome us, for you have the greatest right to do so.

لو جالَ فيكَ هوىَ المحبَّةِ ساعةً

ما كنتَ تطلًُبنا وأنتَ مُعوقُ

If the passion of love moved within you but an hour,

You would seek us, though you are hindered.

ولقد كرهتُ العيشَ بعدَ بِعادكمِ

ما في الحياةِ إذا بعُدتُم رَونَقُ

And I have hated life since you went far from me,

For when you are distant, life has no charm.
