لَولاَ مُزايلةُ الخَليطِ النَّازحِ

ما جَدَّ بي ولَهُ الغرامِ النَّازحِ

If not for dispelling the departing turmoil,

My passion for you would not have departed.

كَلاَّ ولا أَذكى لَهيباً لافِحاً

في مُهجتَي مُنهلُّ دَمعي الطَّافحِ

No, never will I ignite within my essence,

A blazing flame from my overflowing tears.

هي فُرقةٌ تَركَتك رهنَ صَبابةٍ

تَبكي لإِيماضِ البُريقِ اللاَّمحِ

It is a separation that left you hostage,

To youthfulness, crying for the gleaming gaze.

سيِما إِذا ما باتَ مُرتقِبُ السَنا

يَختارُ مُختطفَاً لِطَرفٍ لامِحِ

Especially when the yearner spends the night,

Choosing a glance from a fleeting eye.

وَيَيبتُ من طَربٍ بِقَلبي صادِعاً

تَغريدُ طائرِ دوحهنَّ الصَّادحِ

And stays up out of joy, with my heart clamoring,

The singing bird of Duhann chirping loudly.

وأغنَّ مَعسولِ الشَّمائِلِ لَو بدا

للِبدرِ غابَ وقالَ إنَّكَ فاضِحي

And sings the mellifluous traits, if only

The full moon emerged and said “You have exposed me!”

وَيلاهُ مِنهُ إِلالام يُسرِفُ في الملا

مِ يُطيعُ فيَّ لِكُلِّ واشٍ كاشِحِ

Woe to him from its glances that lavish the intoxication,

Obeying within me every intrusive ogler.

كَم ذا التَّجافي والصُّدودِ بطرفِكِ السَّا

جي وَعَبقةٍ مِسكِ فيكَ الفائحِ

How long will this aloofness and rejection last,

My dear, and the scent of musk within you diffusing?

عَطفاً فَحسبُكَ زَفرةً مشبوبَةً

نِيرانُها الحَمراءُ بينَ جوانحي

Show me some compassion, just a sigh,

Its red embers between my wings.
