Does the pregnant breeze, as it blows by,

Bring news I imagine is fragrant musk?

Or by the fluttering of the flags, a message

That returns to retell what has passed, as it was?

It is time, O people of al-Aqiq, for one visiting

To reap the love you sow, and issue forth.

My soul found no comfort after you,

No joy, and my eye knew no rest.

Be gentle when the morning blows from your land,

And tender, if I face a morning cracked open.

The breeze continues to recite your words to me,

As if it were passion itself intoxicating me!

And so madness tempts me, for it

Revived my heart with your memory - and I knew not.

I love you until death, and loving you

Is the greatest bliss beneath the soil.
