O home of Salma, I bid you peace
And the slopes of that towering height
When the rain is scarce do you weep
For me with prolonged tears
I swear by the bitter life in
You that it is the truest oath
And by the trailing of youth’s robes
In the gloom of the darkest night
And by what you left and took
Of woe and of sickness
The oath of one with a throbbing heart
Sleepless eyes and trembling lip
I was never inclined to
Frivolity except accused
No, it was not what
The envious claimed, as alleged
My friend, stop and ask
Between these tents
A heart that constant sorrows
Have overflowed with blood
If they say that desperate lover
Say: yes, it is true
I left him and his being
In his sickness was like naught
