Marvel when you hear the bells' voices

From the monastery's side in the night's darkness

And descend into John's courtyard and his friend

Thomas, Luke, and Mark, then Kerkis

Asking about the pure, refined color

That people have freed in the churches

Time has passed over it, so it tells

What was with Adam first, and Iblees

You see the monks fallen in awe of it

When it appears between deacon and priest

The Gospels are recited honoring it

When you attend with the noblest glorification and sanctification

It is refined and delicate, so it is of pure frankincense

Excelling in description, without fault or stain

It has tales that it relates when mixed

In its cup, about Solomon and Balqis

If the doe of the flock tasted it rinsed

She would fear her spotted, despised mate

The monastery's Christians hurry with it at night's first darkness

Sneaking to youths like wandering stars

So turn away the turns of fate's sermons with it, seizing

What remains of sun with those candlesticks

And beware the monastery's stingy sexton

With the cup of alcohol, though empty of purse
