With kohl-lined eyes that hint of sickness and pale green,
And lips whose smiles reveal pearl-white teeth,
Recall the days of union, and promise an ailing heart -
None but you can soothe its torment.
Passion shifts in him from joy to despair,
Comforting and luring him in turn.
I wonder at your piercing glance’s sword,
That cuts sharp while being brittle.
No wonder your spear bends and tilts -
What branch does not sway?
I ransom you from the pangs of longing
And tears that stream down my cheek,
From fires that burn my heart at night
With no path leading to patience.
If I could find a way to reproach,
Or confide in someone, I would -
I would tell the breeze of longing
That it gently accepts.
