1. مُسفِرٌ جاءَ بِكَأسِ مُزِجَت

    في هَنا السُّكرِ

    The cupbearer came with a cup mixed

    With sugar in this calm

  2. قَالَتِ النَّدمانُ شَمسٌ أُبرِزَت

    مَع أَخِ البَدرِ

    The bright sun rose, said the moons

    Along with the full moon

  3. أَيُّ ريمٍ ذي مَعانٍ أَعجَزَت

    دِقَّةَ الفِكرِ

    What words with meanings made wisdom

    Lack thought

  4. جاءَ بالكَأسِ قُبَيلَ السَّحَرِ

    قالَتِ الأَكياس

    He came with the cup near dawn

    Said the pouches

  5. طافَ بالشَّمسِ شَقيقُ القَمَرِ

    في دُجى العَسعاسِ

    The moon revolved around the sun

    In the gloom of darkness

  6. خَضَّبَ الرَّاحاتِ راحٌ صِبغُهُ

    وَجنَةُ السَّاقي

    The palm trees were painted red by a breeze

    And cheek of the cupbearer

  7. وَحَمى الوَردَ بِآسٍ صدُغُهُ

    يا لَهُ واقٍ

    And protected the roses with a staff whose strike

    Oh, how watchful it is

  8. أَرقَمٌ في كُلِّ قَلبٍ لَدغُهُ

    ما لَهُ راقِ

    A number stung every heart

    With no shepherd

  9. أَلبَسَ الكَأسَ ثِيابَ الزَّهَرِ

    خَدُّ ساقي الكَاس

    The cup dressed in flowers’ clothes

    Cheek of the cupbearer

  10. وحَمَى الوَردَ وآسَ الخَفَرِ

    بِسنانِ الباس

    And protected the roses and the sentry’s staff

    With the snakes’ fangs

  11. وَجهُهُ قَد أَطلَعَت بَهجَتُهُ

    طَلعَةَ البَدرِ

    His face shone with splendor

    Like the rising moon

  12. خَدُّهُ قَد أَنبَتَت وَجنَتُهُ

    جَبَّةَ الزَّهرِ

    His cheek grew roses

    Like a flowered coat

  13. رِيقُهُ قَد أَبدَعَت خَمرَتُهُ

    حُمرَةَ الدُّرِ

    His saliva created its wine

    With a ruby’s redness

  14. ثَغرُهُ يَسقي مُدامَ الدُّررِ

    رُوحهُ الحَسَّاس

    His lips serve eternal pearls

    His sensitive soul

  15. وَيُريكَ البَانَ تحتَ الأُزُرِ

    عِطفُهُ المَيَّاس

    And shows you lightning under the breasts

    With his flexible passion

  16. خالُهُ الزِّنجِيُّ في وَجنَتِهِ

    خازِنُ الخُلدِ

    His black mole in his cheek

    Storing eternity

  17. قَد كَساهُ الوَردُ من حُمرَتِهِ

    حُلَّةَ الوَردِ

    The roses dressed it in their redness

    In their floral robe

  18. إِنَّما يَحميه من مُقلَتِهِ

    صارِمٌ هِندي

    It only protects it from withering

    A severe Indian

  19. حُسنُهُ يُحمَى بِسِحرِ الحَوَرِ

    من عُيونِ النَّاس

    His beauty protected by ladies’ magic

    From people’s eyes

  20. يَحجُبُ الأَبصارَ عِندَ النَّظَرِ

    يا لَها حُراس

    Shielding sights when looking

    Oh, what guards

  21. أَيُّها الرَّاهِبُ مِمَّن تَرهَبُ

    زَالَتِ الأَوهام

    O monk who renounces

    Visions are gone

  22. انتَبِه فالدَّيرُ فيهِ طَرَبُ

    أَيقَظَ النُّوَّام

    Wake, the monastery is disturbed

    Awakening the sleepy

  23. هاتِ لي الكَأٍَ فعِندي يجبُ

    شُربُها بالجام

    Give me the cup, I must

    Drink it in the goblet

  24. أَيُّها القِسِّيسُ نَقرُ الوَتَرِ

    أَيقَظَ الشَّمِّاس

    O priest, we pluck the strings

    Awakening the deacon

  25. فاجلُ بالإِنجيلِ شَمسَ السُّوَرِ

    واسقنِي بالطَّاس

    So start the Gospel, sun of the wall

    And serve me in the cup
