عينى التي علِقتْ حبائُلكم بها

والحسنُ للعين الطموحةِ صائدُ

My eyes which your ropes have attached

And beauty is for the ambitious eye a hunter

وخدعتمُ سمعى بطيبِ حديثكم

ومن الكلام لآلىءٌ وفرائدُ

And you have deceived my hearing with your sweet talk

And from words are precious pearls and ingots

وتردّد الأنفاسِ مَلّكَ عرَفكم

ما ليس يبلغُه العبيرُ الجاسدُ

And the breaths echo your well-known meadow

What cannot be reached by the lifeless aroma

وأحلتمُ قلبي على أخلاقكم

فإذا السُّلافة والزلالُ الباردُ

And you have settled my heart into your morals

There lies the sincerity and the cool freshwater

وبقى لساني وحدَه لي زاجرا

هيهات لا غَلَبَ الجماعةَ واحُد

And my tongue alone remains to deter me

Alas! One cannot overcome the group
